The San Francisco Giants aren’t getting anything out of the catchers offensively

The Giants are getting next to nothing out of the catchers offensively since the season ending injury to Buster Posey. 31-year old Eli Whiteside has played in 31 games for the Giants so far this year and he is 15 for 75 (.200 avg, .597 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 4 RBIs. Whiteside is a decent backup catcher but his weaknesses are exposed the more he plays. 29-year old righty swinging Chris Stewart hasn’t played well either for the Giants. He has played in 11 games for the Giants so far this year and he is 3 for 21 (.143 avg, .408 OPS) with 3 runs scored. The Giants need to go outside the organization to find a starting quality catcher in the trade market and they need to do that sooner rather than later.

Miguel Tejada is looking like he’s toast for the San Francisco Giants

37-year old righty swinging SS/3B Miguel Tejada is looking like a player at the end of the line. He has played in 47 games for the Giants so far this year and he is 38 for 175 (.217 avg, .522 OPS) with 15 runs scored, 1 homer, 15 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He is playing 3B right now, while Pablo Sandoval is out of action. But, he better pick up the pace because if someone (Brandon Crawford) is playing well at SS when Sandoval returns to action, Tejada might be out of a starting gig. Tejada is not much of a defensive player now, so he is getting paid for his offense which is starting to disappear. This could be the beginning of the end for Miguel’s Tejada’s major league career.

Mark DeRosa is back on the D.L. for the San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants have placed 36-year old righty swinging 3B/OF Mark DeRosa back on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left wrist. DeRosa has played in 18 games for the Giants so far this year and he is 6 for 37 (.162 avg, .414 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 0 homers and 3 RBIs. He has been especially awful in May for the Giants. DeRosa has played in 7 games in May for the Giants and he is 0 for 19 (.000 avg, .050 OPS)! The Giants have recalled 27-year old switch-hitting infielder Emmanuel Burriss to replace DeRosa on the active roster. Burriss played in 5 games earlier this year for the Giants and he was 4 for 15 (.267 avg, .533 OPS) with 1 run scored, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base. Burriss has played in 168 games in his first four years with the Giants and he is 122 for 462 (.264 avg, .628 OPS) with 59 runs scored, 1 homer, 32 RBIs and 25 stolen bases.

Buster Posey is finding his second go around a little tougher for the San Francisco Giants

24-year old righty swinging catcher Buster Posey burst onto the scene for the Giants last year. He played in 108 games for the Giants last year and he was 124 of 406 (.305 avg, .862 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 18 homers and 67 RBIs as he was the Rookie of the Year in the National League. This season as been nowhere near as easy for Posey thus far. He has played in 37 games for the Giants so far this year and he is 34 for 129 (.264 avg, .723 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 4 homers, 20 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. The Giants hope that Posey’s bat starts to heat up soon, as they aren’t hitting well as a team right now.

Aubrey Huff is having a rough time with the bat so far for the San Francisco Giants

34-year old lefty swinging 1B Aubrey Huff is off to a slow start this year for the Giants. He has played in 28 games for the Giants so far this year and he is 19 for 100 (.190 avg, .547 OPS) with 8 runs scored, 2 homers, 15 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Huff is a notorius slow starter as been his history. He played well all of 2010 for the Giants when he played in 157 games in which he was 165 of 569 (.290 avg, .891 OPS) with 100 runs scored, 26 homers, 87 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. With all of the injuries the Giants have right now, it would be nice for Huff to get his bat started to help cover for them.
