34-year old righty starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong came out of nowhere to finish tied for 10th in the voting for the N.L. Cy Young Award with fellow Giants’ pitcher Madision Bumgarger. Vogelsong pitched in 30 games (28 starts) for the Giants last year and he was 13-7 with a 2.71 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He has now pitched in 150 games (61 starts) in his first 7 years in the majors and he is 23-29 with a 4.71 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. It will be interesting to see if Vogelsong’s 2011 season was a fluke or a vision of things to come out of him, and we will find that out in 2012.

Bruce Bochy of the San Francisco Giants finished tied for 6th for the Manager of the Year Award

56-year old Bruce Bochy finished tied for 6th (with Clint Hurdle of the Pirates) for the N.L. Manager of the Year Award. Bochy led the Giants to a 87-76 (53.1%) record last season despite having an offense that was pathetic. Bochy is now 1,360-1,376 (49.7%) in his first 17 years as a manager in the major leagues. He was the Manager of the Year back in 1996, and he could win this award in the near future for the Giants….if they start hitting the ball better.

The Giants have re-signed 33-year old lefty swinging 1B Aubrey Huff to a 2-year, $22 million dollar contract with a option for 2013. Huff played in 157 games for the Giants last season and he was 165 of 569 (.290 avg, .891 OPS) with 100 runs scored, 26 homers, 86 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. He also played in 15 games for the Giants last post season and he was 15 of 56 (.268 avg, .696 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 1 homer and 8 RBIs. Huff has now played in 1,479 games in his first 11 years in the majors and he is 1,556 of 5,505 (.283 avg, .821 OPS) with 754 runs scored, 229 homers, 838 RBIs and 32 stolen bases. This was a good move for the Giants as Huff was a key part of the offense in 2010.

UPDATE:  (12/2/2010) - Aubrey Huff finished 7th in the voting for the N.L. MVP Award.

Tim Lincecum finishes in a tie for 10th in the voting for the N.L. Cy Young Award

26-year old righty starting pitcher Tim Lincecum finished in a tie for 10th in the N.L. Cy Young Award voting with Brett Myers. Lincecum started 33 games during the regular season for the Giants and he was 16-10 with a 3.43 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. It was the 3rd year in a row that Lincecum led the N.L. in strikeouts. Lincecum won the Cy Young Award in 2008+2009 with the Giants but I’m sure he’s happy to have traded in that award for 2010 for the World Series Champions ring he’s going to get. Lincecum was outstanding in the post season for the Giants pitching in 6 games (5 starts) in which he was 4-1 with a 2.43 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP. Lincecum has now pitched in 123 games (122 starts) in his first four years with the Giants and he is 56-27 with a 3.04 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.

MVP Award showing just what kind of season he had for the Giants.
