The San Francisco Giants place Jonathan Sanchez on the D.L.

The Giants have placed 28-year old lefty starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list with left biceps tendinitis. Sanchez has started 16 games for the Giants so far this year and he is 4-5 with a 3.81 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. He has only given up 68 hits this year while whiffing 92 batters in his first 89 2/3 innings, which shows just how nasty he can be. But he has also walked 59 batters so far this year and that has gotten him into a lot of trouble. The Giants have activated 33-year old lefty starting pitcher Barry Zito from the D.L. to replace Sanchez in the starting rotation. Zito started 3 games earlier this year for the Giants and he was 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. Zito started 4 games on his rehab assignment inn A+AAA-ball and he was 4-0 with a 2.20 ERA and a 0.78 WHIP.

29-year old righty closer Brian Wilson started this season on the D.L. and he looked rusty in April. But, in May and June, Wilson has pitched in 21 games in which he is 5-0 with 12 saves, a 0.42 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. Wilson has pitched in 32 games (0 starts) overall this year for the Giants and he is 5-1 with 20 saves, a 2.53 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Wilson needs to stay sharp because due to the Giants’ lack of offense, most of the games they play are close ones.
