Miguel Tejada is looking like he’s toast for the San Francisco Giants

37-year old righty swinging SS/3B Miguel Tejada is looking like a player at the end of the line. He has played in 47 games for the Giants so far this year and he is 38 for 175 (.217 avg, .522 OPS) with 15 runs scored, 1 homer, 15 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He is playing 3B right now, while Pablo Sandoval is out of action. But, he better pick up the pace because if someone (Brandon Crawford) is playing well at SS when Sandoval returns to action, Tejada might be out of a starting gig. Tejada is not much of a defensive player now, so he is getting paid for his offense which is starting to disappear. This could be the beginning of the end for Miguel’s Tejada’s major league career.

Lefty reliever Gary Lavelle wasn’t the most dominating reliever in his time but he was pretty darn solid. Lavelle pitched in 647 games (3 starts) in 11 years with the Giants and he was 73-67 with 127 saves, a 2.82 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. His best season with the Giants came back in 1977 when he worked in 73 games (0 starts) in which he was 7-7 with 20 saves, a 2.05 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. He only gave up 106 hits in 118 1/3 for the Giants in 1977. Lavelle is the Giants’ all-time leader in games pitched with 647 and he’s also #4 in saves (127) in Giants’ history.

The Giants have placed 24-year old righty swinging catcher Buster Posey on the 15-day disabled list due to a fracture in his left leg. He won’t be coming back this year. Posey was injured in a collision at home plate with Marlins’ outfielder Scott Cousins on a clean play. Posey played in 45 games for the Giants this year and he was 46 for 162 (.284 avg, .756 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 4 homers, 21 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. The Giants have called up 29-year old righty swinging Chris Stewart to replace Posey on the active roster. Stewart has played in 33 games in AAA-ball so far this year and he was 21 for 95 (.221 avg, .586 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 10 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. He has played in 26 games in parts of four years in the majors and he is 9 for 48 (.188 avg, .464 OPS) with 4 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Stewart will share P.T. behind the plate with 31-year old righty swinging Eli Whiteside. Whiteside has played in 14 games for the Giants so far this year and he is 5 for 25 (.200 avg, .686 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 1 homer and 1 RBI. The Giants will have to consider making a deal for a everyday type catcher or they might decide to place a call to Bengie Molina. Either way, they need to get an upgrade over Whiteside and Stewart.
