Matt Cain has been electric so far this season for the Giants. He has pitched in 13 games (all starts) for the Giants this season and he is 9-1 with a 2.39 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. Finally getting run support, Matt Cain could make a very serious run at the Cy Young Award in the National League.

The Giants have sent Emmanuel Burriss to AAA. He played in 61 games this season for the Giants and he was 48 for 202 (.238 avg, .559 OPS) with 18 runs scored, 13 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. The Giants have recalled 25-year old righty swinging 2B Matt Downs to replace Burriss. Downs was the Giants’ #24 prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. Downs has played in 54 games in AAA-ball this season and he is 61 for 212 (.288 avg, .786 OPS) with 35 runs scored, 6 homers, 38 RBIs and 7 stolen bases.

The San Francisco Giants sign Shingo Takatsu

The Giants have signed 40-year old righty reliever Shingo Takatsu to a minor league deal. “Mr. Zero” last pitched in the majors in 2005 with the Mets. Takatsu has now pitched in 99 games (0 starts) in his major league career and he is 8-6 with 27 saves, a 3.38 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. This was a nice low risk move for the Giants as Takatsu might help them down the road this season.

The San Francisco Giants lose Pat Misch on waivers to the Mets

The Giants have lost 28-year old lefty reliever Pat Misch on waivers to the Mets. Misch pitched in 4 games (0 starts) for the Giants this season and he is 0-0 with a 10.80 ERA and a 2.08 WHIP. Misch has pitched in 38 games (11 starts) in his major league career and he is 0-7 with a 5.20 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. The Giants won’t miss Misch much as he’s not much of a pitcher.
