The San Francisco Giants re-sign a couple players
The Giants have re-signed 36-year old righty swinging 1B Scott McClain and 28-year old righty pitcher Jesse Foppert to minor league deal. McClain played in 14 games for the Giants last season and he was 9 for 33 (.273 avg, .853 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 homers and 7 RBIs. He has now played in 44 games in his major league career and he is 15 for 78 (.192 avg, .579 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 2 homers and 8 RBIs. McClain could be a sleeper in the battle for the first base job in 2009 for the Giants. Jesse Foppert was once one of the brightest prospects in all of baseball but he hasn’t been able to shake the injury bug. He pitched in 24 games (2 starts) last season in AAA-ball and he was 2-1 with 1 save, a 7.62 ERA and a 2.13 WHIP. Foppert has also pitched in 27 games (23 starts) in his major league career and he is 8-9 with a 5.00 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP.
